Thanks for those wise and comforting words. This will be a great trial, but as you quoted “Lord, to whom shall we go?” There is no place except Our Holy Catholic Church. God bless.
I am not surprised at the problem we face as Catholics. This has been in the making for years. I entered the Church at age 32 and am now 71+. I entered the Church because of my strong belief in the this past Sunday’s Gospel. Ironically though I was raised Baptist, I believed that the bread and wine was truly Jesus Christ from a very early age. We were told that the Bible was the inerrant Word of God, and that Christ was our personal Lord and Savior. It wasn’t until later that I learned that Baptists don’t believe in the real presence in communion. I thought it was stupid to tell people that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God and turn around and tell them that something as poignant as the sixth chapter of John’s Gospel was only a figurative. Later I met my wife, who was a raised Catholic, so, of course, we discussed religion in our marriage. I told her that I would join the Catholic Church so we would have one religion in our household. (I was raised in a two denominational household and religion was always cause for argument.) I have never regretted the decision because I still believe with my whole heart that Christ is present, body. blood, soul and divinity in the Eucharist. Many of my relatives were very upset with me, but it didn’t matter to me. The I made my Cursillo weekend and it was there that Christ actually made me realize that he is truly present in the Eucharist. I suppose what I experienced was what people mean when they speak of ecstasy. The experience was profound. There is nowhere else I can go.
I know that the Legionaries of Christ fell victim to a similar scandal. I the 1980’s and 1990’s my wife and I used to do work for the Church in Greenville, South Carolina. A good number of the Priests there also had questionable sexual orientation. Same in Wilmington, NC. But there are also priests whom I truly admire and their life reflects God’s Gospel message.
Protestants will certainly kick up a stink over this and re-iterate Luther’s old saw that the Pope is the antichrist and everyone in the Catholic Church is going to Hell. The atheists will point to their belief that there has never been proof of a god of any kind. Some will quote Nietzsche, saying God is dead. But God is love (1 John 4:7-21), and love is never irrelevant (1 Corinthians 13:8a) . Love is sacrificial, always contributing to the good of mankind.
I very much appreciate your homily. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord (Joshua 24:15) Your right, there is nowhere else to go, Christ has the words of everlasting life, forever, Amen.
The country and church (America) has white nationalist Christians leading the worst hypocrisy in history. The liberals are giving and kind while they feed propaganda to the millennials. Neither agenda is Christian Republican or Democratic. Meanwhile as the nation sits on a ticking time bomb, us people who have been given everything wonder what to do when the answer is “Go forth and make disciples”. Do anything for Pete’s sake and do it with self sacrifice and love. Turn off the tvs because God is on channel One.
I sure wish I could start the traveling monistary. The lukewarmness is nauseating. Our poor children… Mercy and Grace
Please recommend no TV. Get ready folks Crux santi sit mihi lux
