God knows I have made enough mistakes (mostly honest) to last several lifetimes. I guess the important thing is to accept them as our failures and go on to try and improve on our shortcomings.
This is so powerful to hear. I have a strong and harsh tendency to self judgment, lacking self-compassion and self-empathy. I feel the Holy Spirit’s gentle invitation to truth: “I’ve made mistakes; they’re honest mistakes.” Yes, Lord, I’m human. Please continue the work you’ve begun in me, helping me to accept Your own tender love and mercy.
That is a big reason why I like to distinguish between true and false contrition… negative self talk is often the work of the enemy and not true contrition. True contrition and authentic sorrow for sin should free us to receive God’s mercy with gratitude
